There are multiple kinds of kidney stones that can be found in people all over the world. Sometimes these stones can be easily passed through urine or they can be dissolved by drinking lots of water and taking certain medications. While in other cases surgery may be required. Kinds of kidney stones There are majorly four types of kidney stones. The size of kidney stones can be as small as a grain of sand or as sometimes larger than the pearl. The different types of kidney include the following- Calcium Stones The most common type of kidney stones is calcium oxalate stones. Oxalate is naturally occurring material that is found in common food items and is also made daily by your liver. There are some fruits and vegetables, as well as nuts and chocolate that contains the high level of oxalate content and thus can contribute to the formation of kidney stones. Uric acid stones The stones formed from the uric acid are called uric acid stones. Uric acid is the waste product that is normally passed out of the body in the urine. People are more likely to develop kidney stones if they have- • Low urine output. • A diet high in animal protein, such as red meat. • An increase in how much alcohol you drink. • Gout • The inflammation of the bowel disease. Struvite stones Struvite stones can also be referred to as “infection stones” and “triple phosphate” stones. Also when they are formed in with kidney or urinary tract infections (UTIs) they are known as the infection stones. These stones are larger than the other types of stones and can occur with an infection in the person body thus they should be taken seriously. This stone is more likely to be caused in women as compared to men due to the higher risk of urinary infection in women. For the removal of these stones the multiple treatment procedures including antibiotics are usually needed. Cystine stones The least common type of kidney stones that are made up of a chemical called cysteine is called cysteine stones. These stones are usually found in people who have a family history of a condition that results in too much cystine in the urine (cystinuria). In certain cases, these stones may be prevented or dissolved with medicine. However, if a stone causes blockage in the urinary tract or is too large, then it will need to be removed.
